Pushing Forward with Alycia, A Disability Podcast with Global Reach

First, Alycia declared she wanted to produce a disability podcast that would amplify the stories of the disability community, share her lived experience, educate about ableism, and inspire. What did she do? She hired a creative team to help her. She listened. She learned interviewing skills. She practiced. She took the coaching on how to guide conversations. She embraced coaching on how to guide conversations. She learned the tech needed to record a good show. She embodied being a podcast host and she became one! Now her disability podcast has listeners all around the world. The show was the top disability podcast on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. Listen to the one-year celebration episode where Alycia and her husband Marsten Anderson share heartfelt impact stories from listeners, and review standout episodes from the year. It’s full of motivation to keep pushing forward!

“Our journey over the past year has been nothing short of incredible. Each story shared, each listener impacted, and every milestone achieved has reinforced our mission to transform challenges into opportunities. Keep pushing forward and never give up.”

Alycia Anderson: Fashion Model

Alycia making her debut at New York Fashion Week, modeling adaptive wear from Target.

I remember the day Alycia said she dreamed of being on the Runway of Dreams fashion show. It was nine months ago. She had interviewed the founder, Mindy Scheier in a terrific Pushing Forward With Alycia podcast episode about Mindy’s leap from fashion designer to a champion of change, inspired by her son’s everyday challenges. They talked about Mindy’s pivotal transformation, from reimagining a pair of jeans to partnering with Tommy Hilfiger to reshape the fashion landscape with Runway of Dreams. Ten years later, adaptive fashion is breaking barriers in the fashion world and showing how clothing is a medium for empowerment and identity.

Through her speaking engagements Alycia made connections with people in the adaptive fashion industry. She posted on her instagram about an adaptive halloween costume she found at Target. Soon she was consulting for various brands. She just kept taking action that was in line with her dreams, until she ended up at NYFW in NYC on the runway.

Check out Alycia’s Runway of Dreams debut! She absolutely rocked it, so confident, so beautiful, so joyful, so Alycia! She was meant to be on that stage. A full circle moment that started with declaring her dream put her in position to be a model for inclusive fashion designed specifically to support the needs of the disability community.

Movements like this in the fashion industry that boldly share the disabled lived experience, are game changing. It challenges the stereotypical standard of beauty. We now don’t have to hide our bodies. We’re on the runway!

Words create your world. Words are energy. Words are an invitation to the Universe to work with you on what you want. You can change your mind about anything, just by changing your words.

So if you have a dream on your heart, write it down, be specific, then start telling everyone who will listen what you envision for yourself. Then, start taking actions that are a match for causing that dream.

Be like Alycia, pushing forward. Never giving up. Learning. Growing. Bringing others along with you. Being a spark. The Universe rewards action! So go get those dreams you want.
